Former Milwaukee Bucks owner and one of the former U.S. Senators, Herb Kohl had proposed to build a new arena for the Bucks with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. However, most of the community members disagreed to the idea stating that using public fund to build such an arena is a not a good idea. Later in the year 2009, Jim Doyle, who was the Wisconsin Governor then, suggested to renovate the Bradley Center using $5 million as state bonding support. However, the board of directors of the Bradley Center stated that it would require $23 million in order to renovate the arena properly, which was also funded.
After touring the renovated Bradley Center on 18th September, 2013, Adam Silver, who was the deputy NBA commissioner, rejected the center stating that it was not meeting the NBA standards in terms of size and amenities. The NBA had also given the Bucks a final warning that they have to build a new arena or have to get a replacement team by the start of the 2017-18 season. With the help of the money from selling off the franchise to Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry and from government approved funds, the final plan of the new Milwaukee Arena got approved.
The Design and Plan of the New Arena
The release of the first pictures of the new arena by the Milwaukee Bucks happened on 8th April, 2015. The images mainly comprised of the arena’s conceptual drawings to showcase the new vision of a developed city thanks to sports and entertainment. The location of the new arena will be between the 6th Street and 4th Street. It will be quite close to the several key location of Milwaukee such as The Brewery, the Milwaukee Riverfront, Wisconsin Center, and Schlitz Park. It is estimated that the new Milwaukee Bucks Arena will have a one-time capacity of 17,500 spectators and more club seating facilities and fewer luxury class suites.
This new arena is a major incident in the life of Milwaukee Bucks. If this had not been initiated, then the club would have ceased to run. This would have disheartened millions of fans of the Bucks and would have put a black mark in the history of basketball. After all, nobody would like to see their favorite team bid adieu to the world never to return in the history of the game.
